Changing the hydraulic fluid and filter on a Massey Ferguson 1160 tractor is an essential maintenance task to ensure proper operation and longevity of the hydraulic system. If you're having trouble removing the bottom filter, here are some steps you can take to address the issue:

Use a Filter Wrench: Start by using a filter wrench specifically designed for removing oil filters. These wrenches provide extra grip and leverage, making it easier to loosen stubborn filters. Apply steady pressure in a counterclockwise direction to loosen the filter from its housing.

Tap the Filter: If the filter is stuck due to a tight seal, gently tap around the edge of the filter with a rubber mallet or a block of wood. This can help break the seal and loosen the filter from its housing.

Use Heat: In some cases, heat can help loosen a stubborn filter. Use a heat gun or propane torch to carefully heat the filter housing around the edge of the filter. Be cautious not to overheat or damage surrounding components.

Apply Penetrating Oil: If the filter is stuck due to corrosion or buildup, applying a penetrating oil around the edge of the filter can help loosen it. Allow the penetrating oil to penetrate for several minutes before attempting to remove the filter again.

Use a Filter Removal Tool: If all else fails, you may need to use a specialized filter removal tool designed for removing stuck filters. These tools grip onto the filter housing and provide additional leverage for loosening stubborn filters.

Consult the Owner's Manual: Refer to the tractor's owner's manual for specific instructions and recommendations on removing the hydraulic filter. The manual may contain helpful tips and precautions for dealing with stuck filters.

Seek Professional Assistance: If you're unable to remove the filter despite trying the above methods, it may be best to seek assistance from a professional mechanic or technician. They have the experience and tools necessary to safely remove stubborn filters without causing damage to the tractor.

By following these steps and exercising patience and caution, you should be able to successfully remove the bottom filter on your Massey Ferguson 1160 tractor and complete the hydraulic fluid change.
